Kids' Corner FAQ
Psychotherapy (or “therapy”) is a safe space for kids and adults to talk to a trained professional about their thoughts and feelings. It helps them work through challenges, learn new skills and build confidence.
Yes – counselling, therapy, and psychotherapy all mean working with a trained professional to support mental health and well-being.
In Ontario, only trained professionals – such as social workers, registered psychotherapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, doctors, nurses, and occupational therapists – can offer psychotherapy when its being used to treat mental health. This keeps kids safe and ensures they get the right care.
Children, aged 6-11 would benefit from learning emotional regulation, social skills, coping tools and confidence-building in a supportive group environment.

- Recognize and name their feelings
- Learn practical strategies for managing emotions
- Strengthen problem-solving and resilience
- Build social skills and peer connections
- Empower self-confidence and self-esteem
Many groups are shorter (50-60 minutes) and focus on general skills.

- Hands-on art and science activities to enhance learning
- A child-centred, trauma-informed approach
- Facilitators with clinical experience and professional registration
- Home-based guidance
